Introduction The Government of Meghalaya, earlier had launched the Chief Minister's Scholarship Scheme to provide financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 per year to students from Class 11 to Ph.D. level. Taking this vision forward, on 2 September 2025, the State announced a new initiative dedicated to students pursuing careers in the hospitality sector. This initiative has been named the Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Scheme. The main purpose of this scheme is to encourage young students to choose higher education in hospitality and hotel management after completing Class 12. The government aims to develop skilled professionals who can contribute to the growth of Meghalaya’s tourism and hospitality industry. The scheme will be implemented by the Department of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya. At present, the benefit of this scholarship is limited to students studying at IHM Shillong in the B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration course. Under this program, the Meghalaya Government will bear the entire educational expenses of selected students, including tuition fees, hostel charges, mess expenses, and uniform costs. Students whose annual family income exceeds Rs. 3 lakh will not be eligible to apply. Initially, the scheme will run for three academic years, covering 55 students per year, making a total of 165 beneficiaries. Candidates will be nominated at the Block level by the Block Development Officer (BDO), and the final selection will be done by a State Level Selection Committee. Benefits Under the Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Scheme, selected students will receive complete financial support for their studies at IHM Shillong. The scholarship will cover :- Full tuition fees of the course. Hostel accommodation charges. Mess and meal expenses. Uniform expenses. This means that eligible students will be able to pursue the B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration program without bearing any educational cost. Eligibility To apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria :- The applicant must be a permanent resident of Meghalaya. Must have passed Class 12 with English as a subject. Should be currently enrolled in B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration at IHM Shillong. Annual family income should be below Rs. 3 lakh. There is no age limit for applying under this scheme. Documents Applicants will have to required to submit the following documents :- Meghalaya Domicile Certificate. Recent Passport Size Photograph. Mobile Number. Educational Qualification Certificates. Family Income Certificate. Admission documents from IHM Shillong. Process to Apply Application Form is available on the Office of Block Development Officer. Initial identification of students will be done at the Block level. The Block Development Officer (BDO) will nominate candidates based on merit and interest after receiving the application form. Verified applications will be forwarded to the State Level Selection Committee. The final list of beneficiaries will be prepared by this committee.
