Brief objective “Mukhyamantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan” was started on January 27, 2016, in the state, whose main objective is to meet the minimum requirement of water in rural areas, to solve the problems arising out of water availability and lack of water during the famine. Scope The Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan 2.0, launched in Rajasthan in 2024 aims to make villages water self-sufficient. It will promote corporate social responsibility (CSR)-backed works to capture rainwater, improve groundwater levels and revive old water sources. The goal of the project is to cover 20,000 villages to expedite work on tree planting, construction of dams and creation of water resources. The Scheme is based on Four-waters Concept, a successful strategy of water conservation employed in The Four Waters concept involves harvesting of available runoff (rainwater, groundwater, under-ground water & in situ soil moisture) in rural areas by treatment of catchment, proper utilization, renovation & creation of new water harvesting structures. Key objectives of the Scheme To create a water sustainable Rajasthan. To increase the irrigated area o Ensure effective water conservation through the convergence of resources of different departments. To create awareness about community participation in water management. To prepare a village action plan through water budgeting via community participation. To make the village a self-sufficient unit in drinking water through sustainable measures. Water-Budgeting The concept of water budgeting was introduced in Gram sabhas where after determining of usage of water (for drinking, irrigation, livestock & other commercial purposes) & a water budget is prepared to conserve water available from various resources and accordingly, works are identified and approved for the preparation of action plan of the mission.
